Clearview hacked

So, the company that illegally scrapped all of the facebook, twitter, and other social media sites, got itself hacked. Something tells me this was a case of hacktivism.

https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2020/02/28/clearview-ai-loses-entire-database-of-faceprint-buying-clients-to-hackers/

The other thing I find funny about this whole thing. Not the hack per se, but clearview.
Facebook is pissed this person scraped all those pictures.
Isn't that how Zuck started Facebook????

Facebook lies, and I'm not shocked

The real problem is that Facebook profits partly by amplifying lies and selling dangerous targeting tools that allow political operatives to engage in a new level of information warfare. Its business model exploits our data to let advertisers custom-target people, show us each a different version of the truth and manipulate us with hyper-customized ads — ads that, as of two weeks ago, can contain blatantly false and debunked information if they’re run by a political campaign,” she continued. “As long as Facebook prioritizes profit over healthy discourse, they can’t avoid damaging democracies

Trump, Whistle Blower, and the 2'nd Civil War

https://www.wired.com/story/civil-war-2-meme/

Some critics like director Ava DuVernay warn that real danger lurks behind these kinds of presidential tweets. Far-right groups and militias don't see Civil War 2 as an idea worth spoofing, they see it as a call to arms, and, at least online, claim to be acting accordingly.

But underneath the increasingly large pile of misinformation, misinterpretation, and outright fabrication sits one simple truth: The whistle-blower did nothing wrong.

In fact, House Intelligence staffers did exactly what they were supposed to do in these situations: tell the whistle-blower to lawyer up, and submit a complaint to an inspector general. That's their long-established role in the whistle-blower ecosystem. "Like other whistle-blowers have done before and since under Republican- and Democratic-controlled committees, the whistle-blower contacted the committee for guidance on how to report possible wrongdoing within the jurisdiction of the intelligence community," Intel Committee spokesperson Patrick Boland said in a statement. "Consistent with the committee's longstanding procedures, committee staff appropriately advised the whistle-blower to contact an inspector general and to seek legal counsel."

The Internet we have today

The Court Case that Enabled Today's Toxic Internet. Granted, forcing a platform or service to monitor all content is a very slippery slope with mistakes probably out numbering wins. The better option would be to have a shared common decency which the putin trolls seem intent on destroying. Maybe we, as a species, are not smart enough to use social media........
